We receive an amount of funding labelled “Pupil premium” which is intended to be used to raise standards for those children who are at risk of not achieving their full potential due to economic disadvantage or other factors. This funding is triggered by pupils who have registered as being eligible for Free School Meals at any point over the past 6 years. Of course we are well aware that most of our families at Hillside who claim benefits care for and support their children fully, but nationally this is taken as a way of identifying those children who may be at risk. The fact that it brings funding also shows how important it is for families to register as eligible for free meals, even though their children may not take up the lunches offered.
