Year 3

Welcome to the Year 3 class page. A child in Year 3 will experience their first year of lower Key Stage 2. We build upon the experiences and learning the children bring with them from Key Stage 1, and with a careful blend of support and increasing independence over the year, we aim to promote each child's sense of responsibility as a learner. The teacher in Year 3 is Mr Brown. We follow a broad and balanced curriculum in Year 3, with a strong emphasis on linking literacy and mathematics to practical experience, to learning in other curricular areas and to children's lives. The children have regular lessons in English, Mathematics, Computing, Music, R.E., P.E. and Philosphy. There are also age-appropriate lessons in P.S.H.E. and sex education. Other subjects - Science, History, Geography, Art, Design Technology (DT) - are taught through 'Topics'. This year the children in Year 3 will study the Stone Age, Bronze Age and Iron Age, Norfolk Broads and Romans.  Year 3 also offers children the opportunity to go swimming, to learn Spanish and to go on a residential trip linked to one of the study units. The home-school link remains a critically important element in supporting children's progress in literacy and mathematics. Homework will be set each week in Literacy, Maths, Philosophy and Reading. Sometimes additional homework in other subjects is also given.
